Notes: It is night. The dog is alerted to rustlings in the bushes (perhaps, keeping a burglar at bay). The pistol is next to the bed. The mechanical voice shows to the cell phones ... technology. A meditative evening song in church. The song floats out of the church ... arts and humanity (wm).

The title: "All Through The Night" is an open ended statement and it permits all of the actions that take place in the 3 verses. Additionally, "All Through The Night" has literary overtones: for me the primary reference was a childhood Irish lullaby my mother used to sing to her children:

     Sleep my child and peace attend thee,
     All through the night
     Guardian angels God will send thee,
     All through the night

In searching the internet I find that there is a 1941 movie with the title, and a number of contemporary songs with the title but a different melody and different lyrics: Cole Porter and Cyndi Lauper. There are a lot of literary overtones here (jd).
